Comments about North States Wide Stairway Swing Safety Gate:

I couldn't find a gate that would fit the tall newel posts on my stairs- until I found this gate! The color is great- doesn't stick out in a bad way. It was really easy to install. We did have a problem with a plastic part on the top breaking but I called One Step Ahead and they sent a new one out to me super fast. Gotta love that.

Comments about North States Wide Stairway Swing Safety Gate:

This gate works great at the top of our stairway, which has a wide opening. Now our 12 month old and his 21 month old brother can be in the upstairs playroom and I can manage to put away a few clothes in the next room without worrying about the baby getting near the stairs

Hired someone to install after reading the reviews saying it was hard to install. Closing it is NOT very smooth. That gets annoying but when it is closed it works well-so far.

Comments about North States Wide Stairway Swing Safety Gate:

Instructions were EXTREMELY difficult to follow with no pictures!! Have patience when trying to assemble. Latching mechanism is a little difficult to use. If using in drywall, must use mollies. One of the few gates that fit in our wide space however.

Comments about North States Wide Stairway Swing Safety Gate:

This is a good product for the money. The locking mechanism is an eye bolt screwed into a wall. Becareful to make sure you can put the eye bolts into a wood structure and not just drywall. The eye bolts can be easily pulled from drywall (my guess is even by a toddler leaning on the gate). It was easy to install. It does what I bought it for, covering a large opening.

for the maximum length that it can go, this gate it's not sturdy enough. I have mine between the kitchen and the living room and it does it's job, keeps my son outside of the kitchen and the dog food!

It doesn't damage the floor from dragging on it because it is light weight. (hardwood floor)carpet may keep it from moving it easily.

Comments about North States Wide Stairway Swing Safety Gate:

We had a hard time finding a gate that was wide enough to fit the opening at the bottom of our stairs. This fits perfectly, was fairly easy to install, and looks nice. The gate is VERY hard to open though. Luckily, we have this on a second staircase that we don't use very often so this has not been a huge problem. I don't think that we would be quite as happy with this product if we had to open it frequently. It is a nice looking gate for the money and I would still recommend.

I use the swing gate to contain my overactive 18 month old and the 17 month old that I watch full-time. It's great because it confines them to a particular area and keeps the mischief to a minimum!

Comments about North States Wide Stairway Swing Safety Gate:

We have the gate in our upstairs hallway (before the stairway). The gate swings both directions very easily, but the problem is that it is nearly impossible to latch. You must hook the bottom latch first and then try to squeeze (VERY HARD) to make the top latch close. I'd rather pay more for a gate that is easier to use.

Comments about North States Wide Stairway Swing Safety Gate:

My opening is 59", and this gate fits well (it's adjustable) and allows walk through. However, the latch is difficult to operate. We also had to buy longer "eye" hooks for the gate to latch onto. They were not long enough to go through the drywall into the wood below, and our baby pulled them out of the wall in 2 minutes. Although the picture has "feet" on it, there are no feet on this gate, but it functions fine without them.
