Good!

Comments about Rev-A-Shelf Inc Tot-Lok Starter Set:
Have them on all my cupboards with cleaning products. The only bad thing is that sometimes the lock pops up all by itself even when you had it in the open position. But you just have to get out the magnet...way better to lock someone out than have someone in that shouldn't be.
Love Tot-Lok!! Difficult to install

I absolutely love these locks - my son has the strength of no other toddler I know and I never have to worry about him breaking into the cabinets. He's allowed to play independently in the kitchen with no worries about what he can get in to. With all of that said though, they were difficult to install. Patience with installation is a must.I had a hard time finding a drill bit to match - The size recommended in the instructions doesn't match what's on the shelves at local home improvement stores. Ended up having to guess the size.

Most Annoying Lock Ever!
from Appleton, WI
About Me Parent of Two or More Children
My husband installed these locks on all of our kitchen cupboards because a friend at work suggested them...I really thought we were a victim of a joke! They work great, but SO annoying to use, especially in a kitchen while cooking or putting the dishes away. Rubbing the door with the magnet key trying to locate the lever on the otherside gets old really fast. The latch that allows the door to stay in the unlocked position is always knocked back into the locked position because it takes very little to move it back and forth. Another issue is with the need of constantly relocating the key from the previous use around the kitchen before being able to open a cupboard... A lock of this fashion is no necessary unless you like the feeling of frustration! In which case, these locks are perfect for you!

Great Concept, not for everyone

I loved this product online. I was really excited to use this on the drawers in my kitchen so I didn't have to use screws. I have inset cabinets, so once I installed the magnet (very easy), by cabinets didn't close completely. Also, because of the inset cabinets, I had to use a weird angle for the magnet to work. After 2 days, my 13 month old son broke it. Because it wouldn't close all the way, he did have a little leverage that i think helped him. I like the design and idea and it would probably work well with regular cabinets-just not good for me.

Recommend for everyone with children!

I use these throughout my entire kitchen. I don't like the cabinet locks that allow you to partially open. It encourages curiousity that could be dangerous and causes smashed fingers. Plus my son won't outgrow these cabinet locks before we stop needing them. The only problem we had so far is when our family was visiting they closed a cabinet with the magnet inside! It costs $8 in the store to replace it. Plus it takes some practice to be able to find the right spot to put the magnet to unlock the door but I think all childproofing items require a little practice for the adults.
The best locks ever!

I am currently tot-proofing my second home. The first time I used traditional latch locks on the cabinets, but my husband's large hands always had trouble manipulating them. This time I chose to use tot-locks on the recommendation of a friend. The included template made installation easy. The only difficult part was getting into the small space to screw in the screws. You have to be dilligent to read the instructions beforehand, and use exactly the right diameter drill bits so everything works properly. The key is a snap to use, and now my husband can easily open our locked cabinets. They are strong, and keep out the most determined tot.
Great Concept - Difficult to Install

The daycare my daughter attends uses Tot Loks and I saw them there and thought they'd be great in my kitchen. I bought them but they were so difficult to install - I almost ruined my cabinets trying to install them. I returned them and bought the 'old fashioned' latch thingies - much easier to install!!
replacement

We bought our house with Tot-loks already installed but had to buy a few more to replace a broken set. In terms of locking curious children out from dangerous places these are great, however, when we lived childless in the home, these locks drove us nuts as the locking mechanism often slips, locking adults out of cabinets - causing us to search madly for the magnetic release stored in a drawer. But all this means they are doing their job and I have no reservations that our child is protected!
didn't work for us
By Mommy in Ohio

Not sure why these didn't work for us......got them installed and then couldn't get the lock to disengage with the magnet.....so our cabinet was locked shut for awhile until my husband forced it open. We decided to NOT install the other 3 and haven't figured out what to use instead.
Best cabinet lock on the market
By Russ

These are absolutelty the BEST cabinet locks out today. Our little explorer was able to defeat all other locks until we intalled these. A little difficult to install and the instructions are terrible to understand, but the magnet is strong enough to keep even adults from opening a cabinet without the "key"
Great Locks!!!

Not very easy to install, but well worth the effort. You'll need a drill for proper installation. Locks doors/drawers tight. Gives us peace of mind with a 16 month old that loves to explore. Great product!

my children figured out all the other safety locks--I think with this one we finally have something they can't get into!
Needs different size extender pieces
By Mother of 3
from Omaha, NE
I was excited to find these as I have used them before working at a daycare center in college. We have real wood cabinets in our kitchen and we installed exactly as the instructions indicated (you have to drill to a certain width so the magnet can grab the lock through the door). We drilled exactly as it specified. We tried to use the extender piece but it was too long. So the magnet wasn't strong enough to grab without the extender. I wish they would have had multiple size extender pieces. Ultimately, I would have kept them if they did.
