Not that great

Comments about American Guardian The Shield Finger Guard:
I bought three of these and had to return one because it would not stay stuck to my bathroom door. I received the replacement, and that one won't stay on the door, either. The two on the bedroom doors haven't been a problem, but the one on the bathroom door (which we open and close frequently) will not stay put. I tried putting packing tape around it, and even that didn't work!

5 years in our pediatric office!

We have had these in our busy office for 5 years and they have worked well to save little fingers. They look like the day we put them in and clean easily with bleach wipes. We are expanding our office and are back to buy them for our new exam rooms.
Didn't last through installation

About Me Parent of Two or More Children
I excitedly purchased four of these for our home. We have a 2 1/2 year old, and wanted to protect both his and our new son's fingers from getting pinched, or worse, in the door hinges. I unwrapped the package, struggled to manipulate the material to fit the door. Then, once I was able to align everything, I applied the adhesive strip. We attached the guard, and while we were still smoothing out the bottom, the top portion begins to detach from the door. I immediately repackaged the product and returned it the next day. If it won't hold for a few minutes to be installed, why would it last through frequent openings and closings?
Great

This was easy to install, I had no problems getting it to adhere to the door. It's not noticeable unless pointed out. Best thing is that my toddler doesn't bother playing with the door!

Works on refrigerators too!!!
By Kennedy'smom

The configuration of our kitchen allows my 11 month old to stick her arm through the safety gate and put her fingers in the hinge of the refrigerator door when it is opened. She found it funny because the poor parent trying to get something out of the fridge automatically froze so as to not squish her fingers. I ordered this hoping it would work and it's PERFECT! The plain design does not attract her attention and it creates an effective barrier to protect her fingers from being squished. Easy to install, durable and effective. Added bonus is that guests don't notice it easily either. LOVE THIS PRODUCT!
We Love These!
By Mom Of Two

We have bought over [$] worth of these! They are so great! They look great too when they are up. The only complaint is if you forget to turn the air conditioner on on a hot summer day then the adhesive comes undone on the back, but as long as you have it running all the time in the hot months then its not a problem. These are best for babies & crawlers because they go up to the second hinge on the doors. Now that our kids are toddlers, we are doubling up so we have two stacked one above the other so we have full finger protection since they can now reach the top of them by tip toe. I think it's well worth the money. We've already had one of ours get their finger pinched at a friends house and it wouldn't have happened had she had these on her doors. We love em!
Worse product ever purchased

This is simple cheap piece of plastic that unfolds for installation. Incredibly hard to install with horrible instructions. Never worked and we returned it. There are much better options out there to prevent little finger injuries. Don't waste time and money figuring this one out.
Great product.

Very easy to install. But you will need to buy two of these for every door because they only cover half. I have found that my little guy tries to put his hand in the door where the hinges are when I carry him and we leave a room and he is higher up where he couldn't usually reach it himself, therefore the whole door has to be covered and you will need 2 of these for each door.
Expensive, but works

As he was getting more independent, our toddler started putting his hands in the opening between the back side of the door and the frame - it terrified me! We installed these guards - so far so good. I think they are a bit too expensive at [$] for one (you need two for each door - one for each side), especially considering that they are just slices of plastic with some glue on them. Once they are on the door, you need to be careful closing and opening it - ours always make a sound like they are going to come undone, but did not fall off just yet. I can see that in the future I may need to replace them, though. But the bottom line is that my son's fingers are safe, and that's what matters! So, I do recommend this.
It's Functional

I was surprised at how well the tape sticks to the door and jamb and what a simple effective idea it is. I could only rate it average though because it is something you don't want to use throughout the house due to cost and style. Also, it makes it impossible to leave the door partially open as it has a natural springiness. Unfortunately that means you have to be creative to "leave the door cracked" at night (think child's bedroom door). The price seems a tad high (basically its just a strip of plastic laminated cardboard with tape) but again it does the job effectively, is surprisingly secure, was easy to install and provides the peace of mind we were looking for (we've previously had one set of kiddie fingers pinched already...prompting the purchase). Overall, I am satisfied but could probably make my own now (if I had the time that is). I certainly would recommend any parent on the edge to get at least one to see how it works or if you are short on time, just buy a few and be done with it...
Good but not great
By Benjamin's Mama

I have to admit this is slightly better than my method of putting a pillow in the door but it's priced a littler higher than I think it should be. Something to keep in mind if you buy this product is to get 2 for each door (each side). I do like that if I forget to put the pillow in the door jam that this is there just in case.
Wonderful

Best thing since apple pie. Really does prevent your little one's fingers from getting smashed.

We put these on our doors after my 14 month old's finger was amputated when his big brother slammed the door. We never would of imagined the door could actually amputate his finger. These gaurds give me piece of mind when I see him following his older brother.
