Too complicated

Comments about Barron's Red Lace, Yellow Lace: Learn to Tie Your Shoe Children's Book:
This product was too confusing with my 6 yr old. The wording was too advanced I guess. I liked everything else about the book except for the fact that the wording had both my daughter & I confused so I taught her myself with the little bunny saying. For how much that book was... I will totally be returning it!!

very helpful

My son has been struggling to learn to tie shoes especially since the only shoes he has to tie is soccer shoes. One week after he got the book he has learned how to tie his shoe albeit not perfectly. He practices every evening and it is a great tool!

Better in Concept than in Practice
By a Florida Mom

About Me Parent Of Two Or More Children
This is an okay tool for teaching kids how to tie their shoes. It's interactive, but kids cannot turn the pages of the book and tie the laces at the same time. So, this is not something they can do by themselves--unless they are just practicing tying the laces, which they could do without the book. And, this book is pretty large and bulky. What makes this better than just guiding a child verbally while he/she ties the shoes? The book rhymes, and the child doesn't have to actually put on his/her shoe. I'm not sure that those two merits make the book worthwhile.
Cool Tool

My daughter gets a kick out of this and is starting to get the hang of tying her shoes. We like that the laces are different colors--takes the confusing 'left' and 'right' out of an already tricky task. We tried the two bunny ears method (like the book says) but found she is able to do the bunny around the tree more easily, so we just use the laces and not the words in the book.
Works!

I was amazed how quickly this book taught my daughter how to tie her shoes. I've tried on my own to teach her even by putting nail polish on the end of a shoe string. This book and the red and yellow laces helped her learn to tie within minutes. She was so proud of herself and I was too. Now to sit down with my son...
Thank You!

After several unsuccessful attempts at trying to show our daughter how to tie her shoes using her own shoes or ours as an example, I saw this book on OSA's website. The different color laces and being able to flip the pages to see the next step taught her to tie her shoes in a weekend! The only "cons" I can see are that she can't hold the laces and flip the pages by herself, and that the process to tie shoes is different than we were teaching her (and different from the way most adults tie shoes). But as long as she can do it, I'm ok with the difference.
Great Idea

This works great for for learning to tie your shoe on his own. He is still learning the concept and by the end of the yr he will have it down by. Thank you.
Easy to follow

The book is durable. It teaches very easily with pictures only. I don't like the bunny ears tying of shoes... but, my 19-year-old learned it this way, and it hasn't affected her one bit. So, I don't worry about it.My only issue is that the string comes all the way out, so my boys like to totally untie it. I'm scared I will lose the shoe string soon.

good idea

I thought this would be good for my 5 year old. I wanted him to be able to practice on his own but the way they tie the laces is not the way I have been teaching him so it was a bit confusing for him. They make 2 loops and cross them, it doesn't make 1 loop, and then pull the other loop through. If I would have had this info, I would not have purchased it.
I really like this.

Not the way I learned to tie my shoes...

The way this book teaches is not the way I learned to tie my shoes. My son seemed to have a hard time doing the two loop method. It's hard for him to hold onto both loops. I tried to teach him using the books laces the way I learned as well. He stills has a hard time doing it, but seems to have a bit easier time with it. I bought this because I thought it'd be a fun way for him to learn, plus I really liked the two color lace as I knew that would make it a bit easier. We're still working on it, hopefully he gets it down better soon. Oh and for reference he's 6 years old...tying his shoes is not his idea of fun, he'd rather just wear slip on shoes! ha!

Not the typical way to tie your shoe

This is not the typical way people tie their shoes. The instructions were hard for my child to follow.

I do not like the "bunny ear" method, so I skipped the story section of this book completely. The "shoe" part of this book with the different colored laces helped me teach my twins (in roughly two hours each) how to perfectly tie their shoes. It is so much easier for them to work on the fake shoe vs. a real one while learning.

"bunny ear" method, not the traditional!
By kids mom

I almost bought this for my 5 year old who is working on learning to tie.I do not want her to be taught the "bunny ear" method, so I will not be buying this book.Every book and video I see for kids is teaching them all the "bunny ear" method. That is NOT what I want to teach my child. Looking for better recommendations for books or videos on tying shoes!
