I use this gate to keep the dogs from the cat litter. We installed it 5 inches above the floor so the cats can go under. After jumping over the other gates for years, I'm loving this new one.

Gate worked great until after a couple months of use. Then the latch broke and the gate was stuck shut. Very disappointed. For a gate at a $70 price range I would expect a lot better durability. Feels cheap. Called One Step Ahead and they are sending out a replacement part. Very easy, wonderful customer service.

At first we really loved this gate, the color is great and it was working great. After about two months the latch gets stuck and has now broken off. Will be sending this back for a refund.

This gate not only looks great, but it works just as well! I had to make some adjustments when installing it due to the design of my stair opening, but it was still very easy to install. It locks securely and is easy to operate/open with one hand. I have it at the top of my stairs, so I have pushed on it and pulled on it to make sure it is "sturdy" and I am very confident in the strength of the design.

This gate is horrible. The first one broke within the week but we knew the lock wasn't going to last so we sent it back and had another one sent and had the same issues with the lock. Returned it for a full refund.

We bought this specifically because it was meant for the top of the stairs. However, when my husband installed it, it was so flimsy that I made him take it down. If my 8 month old got excited and pushed on it, it felt like it would break. I didn't feel comfortable with it at all.

Comments about The First Years Learning Curve Wooden Slimline Baby Gate:

We use this gate at the top of our stairs off our kitchen. This gate is not metal. I suppose i expected it to be. Our last gate was metal but held in place by turning these round screw out things. It wouldnt work unless it was perfectly straight. So this gate is wonderful as it is a permanant fixture. My husband screwed it into the wall using a drill. I like that it only swings one way.(it can go both if u like) We originally bought this gate b/c my 4 yr old was constantly asking us to open or shut the old gate. Now he can do it, so can our 3 yr old. PERFECT. the reason I didn't give 5 stars is it's kinda flimsy. Thats my only complaint.

Comments about The First Years Learning Curve Wooden Slimline Baby Gate:

My husband spent two full hours trying to get this baby gate up and installed at the top of our stairs. Not only did two of the screws that were sent with the gate snap off in the wood (and we are now left with sharp edges poking out of the banisters), but when he had secured the brace piece, he discovered that it would not line up with the gate because it appeared to be the wrong piece. Or, terrible construction. Either way, I wouldn't recommend this gate as it seemed like way too much work for something that was purported to be much easier to install.

We are using this at the top of the stairs. Installation was fairly easy with no major hang-ups. The opening mechanism is easy to use which is nice when you are carrying a baby trying to get through the gate at the top of the stairs. It also looks nice. I'm not 100% convinced on the durability though. Time will tell once my LO starts shaking it and trying to climb on it. I like it right now.

Says it will expand out to 41" but if you extend it that far it will not last long. SO I had to built out from the wall for the latch piece. My son of 25lbs stands on it while latched and it seems to hold him pretty well. I am screwed in to studs on both ends of which probably helps alot. So far it has been great. Only prob I had was that it said it could accommodate my hallway but it could not. I dont think putting it to the furthest length would be a good thing, dont think it would last long. I have it at 38" right now.

I spent a lot of time installing this and getting it adjusted. It turns out the latch mechanism simply isn't any good. Trust me, it was more hassle taking it down, disassembling and packing it up for a return, but I didn't trust the flimsy latch for the top of the steps where I installed it.
