Large Money Savvy Pig

Item #: 10509

This innovative piggy bank doesn't just teach kids how to save money...but how to manage it! Created by a banker mom, it features four separate chambers that encourage kids to save, spend, donate, and invest. Each time your child makes a deposit, she's prompted to make a financial decision. (What a fun, easy way to learn the principles of money management!) The transparent body allows kids to track their "accounts," and each chamber has a separate plug for accessing specific funds. Includes parent guide and stickers that help kids visualize their goals. Choose Pink or Blue. For ages 3 and up.

Comments about Money Savvy Generation Large Money Savvy Pig Pink:

My 6 year old daughter was so excited to receive this piggy bank! She has been so excited to think about how to allocate her money for saving, spending, and charity. Within the first hour, while she was gently adding her money into the different compartments, the piggy bank split in two down the middle! She was so sad. I was able to crazy glue it back together and it seems to be okay now. Hopefully we just got a defective one.

Comments about Money Savvy Generation Large Money Savvy Pig Pink:

We bought this pig as a gift for our 5 year old, because we really want to teach him the value of money in a way that he understands. This piggy bank is a great teaching tool! We took his old piggy bank and divided up all the money that was in it to get started, talking about each section (Save, Spend, Donate, Invest) as we put the money into it. Over the years I think it will be a great example for him of how to handle money well.

Comments about Money Savvy Generation Large Money Savvy Pig Pink:

We start allowance at 4 (and this is a gift for birthday)-one dollar. Four quarters that they must divide in all four sections. We double allowance each year. We try to just answer questions as they have them. For us, spend is spend. Save is Save (like- never touch as far as they can see). Invest is what they save for- like big purchase (bike, etc). We match what they contribute to it ("401-Dave" style like Dave Ramsey). Donate is for whatever worthy cause THEY see fit. MoneySavyPig has a website too for more tips for parents.

I purchased this product for both of my children, a four year old boy and a six year old girl. The different compartments really make them think about where their money is going to go. Both kids are working toward purchasing a gift for Toys for Tots in their "gift" section. It's cool that they can put their own sticker on a section with the item they're saving for. I'm buying this item for all my nieces and nephews for Christmas.

I bought this as a gift for my 3 year-old niece, and she loves it. It's good for teaching about counting and saving, and it's toy that will grow with her as she matures. Right now she just gets excited about putting coins in and taking them out, but soon she'll understand how to use it to save money. My only complaint is that the stickers that come with the bank to use for decorating do not stay on very well.

Comments about Money Savvy Generation Large Money Savvy Pig Pink:

I love the idea of this piggy bank, but the design is flimsy and dangerous. The little "plugs" on the foot of the pig (for the money to be taken out of eventually, I presume) won't stay locked and fall off constantly. Life with small kids is difficult enough without having spare change tumbling out of a piggy bank all the time if it's moved even an inch or two.

Comments about Money Savvy Generation Large Money Savvy Pig Pink:

This is a great fun way to teach children that having $ is not all about spending as soon as you get it....We had a problem with one of the chamber plugs getting "stuck" half in & half out, but eventually worked it out. Would like to see the chamber plugs redesigned, maybe sturdier. I proudly showed my grandson's pig (a soon to be birthday gift) to my coworkers.

Comments about Money Savvy Generation Large Money Savvy Pig Pink:

This piggy bank is a great concept. It offers a visual aid to show how one can allocate money for charity to help others while showing the child how they can acquire what they want and need in life by developing a strategy for saving, budgeting, and investing. This is a very useful tool that I look forward to using as my children grow older. The only drawback is that it's not very durable and the plugs are a bit flimsy. The plastic is a very light material. It dropped on the floor one time and separated at the seam down the middle. Happily, I guess it's not a plastic that cracks or shatters easily. Better results than if I had a ceramic bank, I suppose. It kind of snapped back together and is ok, but it seems that it will be weaker from now on b/c it's not really designed to come apart and snap back. Perhaps that's the way the company should make it in the future. A heavier kind of plastic would be nice as well. Nevertheless, it is holding up and the educational features are highly desirable. Handle Gently.

We have both this pig, and the cow version of this bank. We LOVE it! Both our kids are learning that their allowance isn't all for spending (like real life!!) But some is for saving, charity and investing! We have them give 10% to the three things other then spending so they can learn to understand how to manage money correctly. Love this bank! We had the cow version for a few years and looked everywhere for something like this. In the end, came back and found it again on One Step Ahead. We'd highly recommend.

This is great for teaching your kids about money at a young age, which I think is essential these days. The kids love it (we got each of them one - ages 7 and 8), and we even opened up a brokerage account and made their first stock purchase this month. It does require the parents to be active in the process, so don't expect your kids to learn much if you are not willing to participate with them.
