We used this at the top of our steps so we wouldn't have to put holes in our banister. It works great. I love the idea that when our kids are older the gate can come down and we won't have any damage to our steps.

The only thing is that if someone pulls to hard opening the gate, the can pull the wood out of alignment. It is easy to fix, but a pain when you have company that isn't familiar with the gate.

I also wish it came in a different color. Our wood work is a light brown so the white sticks out.

Be sure you buy TWO if you have a bannister on each side! We didn't pay attention to that detail and had to reorder. Our bannisters are "curvy" and it still works great!

Picture made me believe it would fit a wide banister. I had to purchase additional velcro strapping to fit the diameter of my banister. It was taller than the other banister kit however did not accomodate the size of the post we were attaching it to.

The kit didn't lock into the bottom but other then that it worked.

These worked great for us b/c we had to install gates on stairways with banisters, so there was no surface to drill into or use for a pressure mount. These are basically just long, skinny pieces of wood, but the velcro buckles that come with are very long and secure. The kids don't get them off. I gave 4 instead of 5 stars b/c the directions are on the outside of the box, and with the shipping labels, the directions were often hard to read.
