Comments about One Step Ahead Clear Advantage Safety Gate:

I've looked all over the internet for a decent looking, well constructed baby gate and I am very happy with the overall look and quality of this one. I'm using this for my dog, not for a baby, but I can attest that it is a well made gate and sturdy. The only downfall is that the instructions to install are not as clear as they could be but once you figure out how to install the hardware on one side, it's easy to line up the other side appropriately so you can ensure everything aligns.

Comments about One Step Ahead Clear Advantage Safety Gate:

I am a parent of 2 and a pediatrician. I actually got this gate only because it was the only one under 30" in height and therefore the only one I could fit at the bottom of our stairs after our dog broke the last one (its no longer being made). I was unable to use the paper templates and still found installation simple. I like not having the slats with gaps in between so my toddler can't reach through to the stairs. It's a nice design and fits where many other gates can't.

Comments about One Step Ahead Clear Advantage Safety Gate:

I was excited about this gate for the top of the stairs our new house. The wood color is much closer to a dark cherry than a mahogany. It's redder than I would have liked but it still looks better than the standard metal gates. It took two of us to install and a lot of planning before we drilled the first holes into the railing. The plexi-glass gets dirty easily but is also easy to clean. It is also very loud when my toddler bangs on it. Unfortunately, the latch broke a few days ago and it no longer can be closed securely. We bought the gate last May (2012) so it didn't last even a year. I'm disappointed b/c it's the best looking gate we've found.

Comments about One Step Ahead Clear Advantage Safety Gate:

It's really not that difficult to install - use the templates provided, drill holes, insert wall anchors if needed, install brackets, and slip gate into place. The instructions are a little light on indicating the size bit needed for the wall anchors provided (it's there, on the back page somewhere).

We had to put some oil on the hinge posts, but after doing so, the gate is very easy to open and close. It seems very secure.

The directions recommend not installing more than 3" above the floor. With the size of the mounting brackets, this is not realistic with even a standard smallish baseboard.

My daughter enjoys being able to see through it, and even pounds on the "glass", which makes a nice drumming sound.

Comments about One Step Ahead Clear Advantage Safety Gate:

This is a very nice looking gate. It is very sturdy and well built. I use it for the top of our stairs. I love that it doesn't have bars for my toddler to stand on and shake. I also love that it fully swings open and doesn't have a bottom bar like my old gate, which was a tripping hazard. It's a little complex to install but my husband had it up in an hour.

Comments about One Step Ahead Clear Advantage Safety Gate:

We purchased this gate for stair top use. This is the second gate we bought for this purpose, and I think we've found a winner. I love that the gate is hinged to the wall. When it swings open there is no bar across the bottom, as with many other brands. I consider this an additional safety feature, as I am clumsy and would be the first to trip over the bar on the floor. The gate looks nice, and our daughter loves that she can see through it. We did have some minor difficulty getting it correctly adjusted, but that was our own fault. The gate does make a loud creaking sound when we open it all the way, but again, I'm assuming it isn't completely level, which is our fault. It does seem very secure and safe. I'm overall very pleased with this purchase.

Comments about One Step Ahead Clear Advantage Safety Gate:

It is really difficult to open this gate with one hand. I have to use my free hand to open the latch and my foot to lift the gate up at the same time. The main reason we got this gate was to keep the dog from licking our baby through the gate, and it does a great job of keeping them seperated. The clear portion is very strong. Our 1 year old likes to play it like a drum. Little hands and dog noses make lots of prints on it and it needs to be cleaned often. Other than the pain of opening and closing it, we generally like the gate. I wish it was not so heavy, but at least it's well constructed.

Comments about One Step Ahead Clear Advantage Safety Gate:

We needed this gate for a wide doorway, and it didn't disappoint! It's much more attractive than the usual baby gate, and it's sturdy! It's easy to open (even one-handed!) and it swings wide so it's easy to use. The only problem is that it does sit a little high off the ground. We double-checked that we installed it properly (we did) and it's still high enough that a skinny toddler could try to squeeze under it. But all in all, a terrific product!

Comments about One Step Ahead Clear Advantage Safety Gate:

I purchased this gate for the top of a few steps that lead to our garage to keep my toddler from escaping the house. It looks very nice! The dark wood looks great with my mahogany kitchen cabinets.

The only difficulty with operation of the gate is that it takes two hands to open, one to hold the latch and the other to lift the gate open. Would be nice if it were simpler to open so you didn't have to have your hands free, but glad it does the job of keeping my toddler safe.

Instructions for installation were not simple, nor clear to follow. I was very grateful to have my husband install it for me.

We installed this gate at the top of our stairs. I thought it was fairly easy to install and works well even when the bottom half of ours had to be attached to the baseboards. It is easy to adjust to accomodate this situation. The plastic is pretty flexible so our nine month old has a great time pounding on it and it shows no sign of breaking. All in all, I would recommend this gate and I love the fact that it doesn't look like a prison door! :)
