After purchasing one of these gates for my fireplace, I bought two more--one for the bay window to keep my twins away from the windows and one for a large area between the living room and kitchen.

I previously had the fences with diamond patterns and my boys quickly learned that they could put their little toes in the holes and climb over them. They cannot do that with these gates. The vertical slats are climb-proof.

I appreciate the fact that they can be screwed into the wall for extra durability. They can shake the gate all they want and it won't move.

The only downfall is that the gate is hard to open. Sometimes it is just easier to step over it. But on the flip side to that, they can't figure out how to get them open so its not really a bad thing.

I am extremely pleased with this gate. I have bought three and I wouldn't hesitate to buy more if the need arises. Well constructed, sturdy and very pleasing to the eye. It makes my house look less like "Babies R Us" :-)

The shipping rates are expensive, however. $15 is automatically applied for each gate purchased above and beyond the regular shipping charges, so hopefully you can find some kind of promotion to help offset this additional charge.

Use for my dog. She followed me up and down stairs multiple times a day. Getting older tripping on stairs and worried she would fall.

We actually got this for our dog. We needed a way to contain our puppy in one area of our house, and it is a very open floor plan, so most "baby" gates would not work. This is perfect for us. The gate is easy enough to use (my 4 year old can do it).

Gate can be a little hard to open. Once you get hang of it its OK.

I got this gate for my hearth and fireplace. One of the 24 inch extensions was broken. Two of the connectors were broken off the end, making it unusable. OSA did replace the extension after I called, but it was frustrating to pay this amount of money to receive a broken item.
The screws provided are cheap. Several of the heads stripped on installation.

We have a wood stove and because we were planning to have a full house for the Holidays which included small children, cats and dog, we decided to get a gate. We weren't excited about mounting anything to the walls just for this occassion but once we set up the gate, we realized that we didn't have to. The gate stands by itself in a half circle shape around the hearth without mounting to the wall. Our guests have gone but we have decided to leave the gate up while the stove is in use, just to be safe. It doesn't take away from the look of our stove and hearth and the gate makes it easy to access the stove. It was a great purchase!

The fireplace gate is excellent and keeps our baby safe from the wood stove. It fits right into our family room and bolts nicely into the walls. However, it did take 4 separate shipments to receive a gate that wasn't damaged due to poor packaging. Waiting close to 2 months was rather frustrating, but overall we're happy with the final product.

My grandson just turned a year-old, has been crawling and walking and is very attracted to my fireplace. I had to watch him continually and was still concerned that he would get burned. Ordering the Auto Close HearthGate Fireplace Gate by Kidco was the first step to creating safe space for my preceious little guy and some relief for myself. I highly recommend this product to anyone who has children and a fireplace.

My daughter has a home with a wood stove and needed to find a gate to block it from a two year old. This is perfect. You hardly even notice it is in the room. It is easy to move and use as a room blocker as well. Great product.

We bought this to keep our 3 year old son away from our woodstove. It has been a perfect solution. Very easy to install, does not get too hot (as other comments stated, just make sure it is the recom'd distance away) and it doesn't look bad either. We got it in black. Very pleased with our decision. Now we can use our woodstove and not worry about our son getting too close and getting burned.

Love the design and how strong this is. The only problem I had was with the additional extensions we ordered. One arrived with a broken corner. The replacement arrived in the exact same condition. Better packing needed for shipping. The actual product is great.

So far so good , I was hesitant about such a large gate and trying to contain 21 mo old twin boys, who really work at figuring things out together! The bracket that's connected at the wall is plastic, I didn't seem to think this would last the duration of the gate so I called KID CO the company and they said it had been thouroghly tested: but would send out replacement parts right away! So I would definitely go for this product and also recommend for kids or animals...
