We have a non-traditional tri-level home that has several sets of 2 steps, multiple levels and odd doorway openings to block off. While more expensive than some other styles or brands, this gate is awesome! Assembly was a snap, literally: you snap the three panels together at the hinges. Super simple. I love that you can easily remove the entire aparatus for cleaning or to move a large piece of furniture, and simply snap it back into the wall brackets when done. Also, additions/expansions are just as easy to add on. Another nice feature is that the lower wall bracket is adjustable both up and down the spindle as well as in and out (towards and away from the wall) to make it a perfect fit. You don't have to worry about how tall your baseboards are, or if an outlet is in the way. The gate itself is easy to use, one handed opening, and the auto-close is a handy feature. I also appreciate the "lock open" feature where if you push the door open far enough, it will keep itself open until you give it a gentle nudge to start the self-close. This is nice once the baby is in bed, we just keep them all open.

I needed something to block off the ceramic tile area around our front door and also contains the steps. This worked perfectly, I had to get a few extensions because of the size of the area. Easy to install, my husband thought it was confusing but I was able to look at the box and figure out he had everything backwards.

It looks like it would have been a great gate; however, after receiving it damaged three times during shipping we gave up and didn't get the gate after all. We also tried to order it from another company and it was also damaged during shipping several times. We believe it is a defect in the manufactured packaging.

The gate itself is fine. The company we purchased from has exceptional customer service. The problem with the gate is it has plastic connectors which for us arrived broken twice, shipping is hard on this product. both gates arrived with the boxes very damaged. They do not sell the connectors separately from the gate so it is deemed useless have tried to glue the broken pieces with no success.Still waiting to resolve the problem.

We love this gate. We are baby proofed! We have a split level home with stairs down to bottom level and stairs up to upstairs, side by side. We used this gate, with 1 extension piece and now both sets of stairs are covered with an "archway." Only thing I can say is, we had to buy banister straps for the one end (seperately) and then the "stay open" feature on the gate is a little weak. Other than that we love it!

This is a very sturdy product and is easy to install. It is the same as the hearth gate but with only 3 sections (instead of 5), so you can mix and match if needed.

Solid steel construction with heavy plastic joints and mounts. It's very stable when installed correctly. The directions were easy to understand but I did not need them. Installation was very easy, but it wasn't simple.

Most people will install this gate on drywall. If that's the case for you, you will have to buy a package of 8 drywall anchors to pair with the included screws. If you don't know how to install drywall anchors, get a man to install this for you.

Fully assemble the gate and line it up where you want to mount it, then mark the location for the top mounts on each side. If you line up the top pieces correctly, the rest will work out fine as the bottom mounts are fully adjustable.

Once installed correctly, with solid drywall anchors, this gate is solid, stable and easy to use. I am very happy with it and would highly recommend it to anyone smart enough to install it correctly.

My only suggestion to the manufacturer would be to spend an extra fifty cents and put drywall anchors in the package so their customers don't have to make an extra trip to the hardware store.

I was excited to purchase this gate as there are very few options for the large space (77 in) we needed to block off. Once the product arrived I was disappointed that it wouldn't work for us. The discription says it fits upto 84 inches but for a shorter distance, it must be set into an arch. This did not work for us as we needed it in a straight line - putting it in an arch blocked 1/2 our hallway. It seemed plenty sturdy and I think would be an excellent option for the odd shaped areas shown in the example photos.

I was also a bit disappointed that One Step Ahead advertises free delivery for purchase over a certain amount but then charged a supplemental fee because this is a large item to ship. I was able to avoid additional shipping charges for the return by doing an immediate exchange but I still had to eat the supplemental fee.

I bought this to use around a gas heater. Excellent idea I thought. I got it in and because I have twins and a full time job I didnt get it installed or open for a month. When I did, it was broken. After I spent 3 hours trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. So I called, They sent me another one. I got it thinking the first one was a fluke. No! This one is broken too. Poor packaging breaks the hinges off of the gate. I hope I can get my money back. I would not order this item.

We have a sunken living room area and were desperate to find a gate to fit at the bottom of the stairs. Our walls are different heights on each side of the stairs so for years we struggled with this. Our 3rd child has just started climbing and I happened to locate this product. I have to say, I couldn't be happier with this purchase!

We used this product in a straight line and it seems it really isn't intended for that as we had to add our own brackets because it was quite unstable. I ordered a couple of extensions along with the gate and I thought surely they would expend so we had to add our own spacer. This product would be good as a play pen-type setup but not to close off a straight line permanently.

We used this gift to cordon off a TV area that was not conducive to a linearly designed gate. I cannot speak to the installation, as my husband put it together, but he did not complain too much. The gate was sturdy, and I loved the feature with the auto-close and door so that we could access the secured area. It is the perfect gate for an irregular space. It is also aesthetically pleasing. I would highly recommend this gate to those with irregular spaces that they need to secure.

Two grandchildren under the ages of 4 are living with me. Mom and Dad too. A coal stove in my kitchen was of great concern with the arrival of cold weather. We saw your product and felt certain that it was a perfect solution to keep our little ones safe from touching, falling into or brushing up against the coal stove. However, the shipping time took forever and I had to leave on a trip before it arrived. When it did arrive (almost 3 weeks after it was ordered, the box was so beat up that one of the hinges was mangled and does not work). But the family decided to use it anyway because they needed it THEN and the thoughts of going thru returns, shipping, reordering, etc would have taken another month. It does the job that we hoped for but its construction seems stiff and hard to configure to shapes other than rectangular. The gate works well and we have had no problems with the kids being able to get past the barrier. I think the product is worthwhile . . .it was just the logistics of getting it that was a problem.
