I purchased this gate to be placed at the top of our stairs. It latches to a banister so the angle mounting and versatility of installation was essential. It works as described and blends in well with the design and trim of our home. It is relatively lightweight as well. Good product.

Purchased 3 of the cherry gates -- we're pleased with how they look. Easy to install and seems sturdy so far. We like that it fits a small doorway and also larger space at stairs. Only downside - 1 of the gates had a broken piece on arrival.

This gate did not seem sturdy enough to use at the top of a staircase. It was definitely not worth the cost.

I am so disappointed with this gate. I bought it based on using what I thought was the same gate at a friend's house. Our friends bought their gate 5 years ago, and clearly this gate was constructed differently back then. While our gate and theirs look exactly the same, the two gates could not be more different. Theirs is heavy, well constructed, and sturdy. Ours is lightweight, shoddy, and has completely fallen apart after just 4 months of regular use. I'm just so bummed.

This product requires nailing to the rail post or wall. Safety gate is only a temporary safety measure. Nail marks on rail post or wall will be permanent. I was disappointed and returned the product.

The gate works perfectly with stairs. The instructions were a little difficult to understand and it was tricky to find a place to mount it but once it was installed, it is very easy to use, sturdy, and looks nice.

This didn't work initially with our staircase, one side is a flat wall, other side banister. Where it lined up on the banisters, the banister was curved and my husband was unable to attach it. However this was solved by purchasing a matching oak board from a local DIY store. He then screwed the flat board to the side of the banister and attached the gate latches to that instead. Works great that way and doesn't look that bad with the extra board in there either (I thought it might). It is easily opened/closed one handed once you get everything lined up as it should be.

Our daughter is only crawling now however I may be a little nervous when she starts to lean on it as the middle bows out when you push on it, (we have the wooden oak one) and it seems as if the wooden slats could break if there was enough force on them. Makes me wish we would have gotten a metal one.

I would still recommend this gate though, just something for you to consider before purchasing.

The construction is very flimsy. This was a gift intended to use to gate off doorways, I would hate to see it at the top of a stairway.

The return-shipping policy made it so that a gift cost the recipient of that gift, close to the cost of one of the gates to return!

We first bought this gate 10 years ago when our older child was just starting to crawl. Though our kids are now 8 & 10 years old, we still use the gate at the bottom of the stairs to keep our dog from going upstairs unsupervised. After 10 years of continuous use, the gate has finally seen its last day. I was thrilled to find that One Step Ahead still has this in stock, as I will be buying a replacement. This is a fanstatic gate that considering how long we've used it, is WELL worth the money spent. I absolutely recommend it!!!

My husband spent over 2 hours on our Saturday night trying to install this gate. He has a degree from an Ivy League College, so intelligence is not the issue. He had to install and uninstall the gate 3 times and it still does not function. It takes 2 hands and 2 people to get the gate in the latches, so I can't even comprehend doing it one handed while holding our daughter.
We have already drilled holes in our custom banister, so we are trying to make this work. We are going to have to call in a handyman to see if the gate can be tweaked to work easily.
very frustrated and downright angry to be honest.

Instillation was straightforward. Our crawling grandson has accepted its presence with no problems. Gate is simple to remove when not in use.

I was excited to get a gate that would fit our stairway. You will need someone who is "handy" to install this gate as it is not very user friendly with instructions. The hardware is plastic and once installed it is pretty flimsy. Hoping my toddler doesn't lean in to the gate, as I don't know if it will hold up.

Purchased because of angle feature. Very poor instructions and difficult to install. It is the poorest quality latch of the 3 different gates I have installed.
