Comments about North States All Wood Stairway Swing Safety Gate:

I've had this gate for 5 years and have loved it from the moment we installed it. Ours has been used at the top of stairs. It's easy to open and close, but not easy enough for little hands to do it. It can be easily taken off when not needed.

Comments about North States All Wood Stairway Swing Safety Gate:

After reading the other reviews, I was afraid to use this...BUT, my husband has lots of tools and experience, and he secured the gate to the walls at the top of our stairs. It was a gate that had all the features I wanted. We have decided to use it ONLY for the stairs, since it is VERY secure and difficult to open. After all, it's a SAFETY gate and making it hard for ME to open, makes it impossible for a child to open. I'm happy with that. We will not install it in the other two areas that need baby gates because it is too high for me to step over. But, it sure worked for us at the top of the stairs.

Comments about North States All Wood Stairway Swing Safety Gate:

This gate is noisy when closed, my toddler has shaken it off the wall once already. I'm not confident that I can rely on this gate to protect my baby from a tumble down the stairs.

Comments about North States All Wood Stairway Swing Safety Gate:

We installed this gate to keep our toddler confined to the kitchen / family room and not wander to the front stairs. We were looking for a gate that we could easily open and close with one hand as we need to pass through it frequently. Unfortunately, this was the only option for us through One Step Ahead at the price point we needed since the other step-through gate was no longer available. We are really disappointed with this product because it is not easy to open or to close. The top and bottom latches secure into the wall through metal eye hooks so trying to get the top and bottom to both latch on correctly takes some wiggling, not to mention having to reach down and help the bottom latch into the eye hook. I also found my toddler playing with the bottom hook when it was not completed latched, and nearly pinched his fingers. If I had to do it again, I would not choose this gate again.

This is just what we were looking for. We have 3 old, old dogs that all have hip problems. We purchased this gate so that they wouldn't try to go downstairs; once down we had to carry them back up.
This was priced well, and is sturdy enough to take care of the problem

The gate was not what I had expected. It looked good on your homepage but when it arrived and I tried to put it up, even adding more hardware to make it more stable it still didn't hold so I didn't even bother putting up the second gate and just left it in the box. I am very dissappointed.

Our 2nd child just turned 1 and we needed to install a gate at the top of our stairs. The gate I purchased is suffient but not fabulous. It is not very sturdy (already came out of the wall with just standard use)and the hook mechanism is not up to par. I miss the gates that we had for our now 6 yr old. They were extremely sturdy and the top and bottom fit into rectangular mounts. That was an awesome gate but of course I am unable to find it anywhere.

Comments about North States All Wood Stairway Swing Safety Gate:

This gate is not worth it. Not only is it flimsy but the latch barely works. It attaches to one side of the stair with 2 eyelets and a hook. The latch is hard to press and doesn't return to the locked position on it's own. It pretty much takes to hands to open and close, not something I have while carrying a baby. I knew this was the less expensive version but I thought that it would still be safe.

The way this gate latches closed/open is poorly designed. Setting up the gate seems easy enough, but you have to be exact in your measurements or you'll be drilling more holes than needed. Once set up, you realize it is VERY cumbersome to operate, even without a baby in one of your arms! Do NOT recommend at all.

Terrible. The measurements for installation are wrong. When we readjusted the eye hooks the gate is nearly impossible to hook up and the latch is so tight it hurts to unlock or lock. Very disappointed. Now we have to take the time to uninstall, send back, and find a new one.

I bought 2 of these gates, one for the top and one for the bottom of my stairs. I was really happy with them. I found them easy to use and they kept my child safe. When he was older and wanted to get past the gate, he would shake it, and the hook and eye part did start to come out of the wall, but we reinforced it and it was fine. We used these until he was 3.

They play with them all the time and the hook tends to twist causing the hook to lossen in the wall. Just error in reading and looking that is all.. Overall the kind of gate I was looking for.

We purchased this gate to put up at the top of our basement stairs. Although we do have a door at the top of the stairs, we wanted a "just in case" gate in order to avoid accidents. Although the gate went up pretty quickly and is light, it is extremely difficult to open and close. I am also not terribly comfortable with the sturdiness of the product as it attaches to the wall, in part, by attaching to a "hook and eye" type piece. I did purchase two other gates (different type) for our main house steps as they were more attractive and I now see how much easier and sturdier they are then this "basement" gate. I am disappointed with this purchase.

This gate may be inexpensive, but it's a nightmare to use unless you have both hands free to wrestle with the clumsy lock. Not only are they difficult to use, my 20 month old son almost fell down the stairs when the entire thing broke while he was trying to break out. He weighs 26 pounds, not exactly the strongest little person. I really think these gates are dangerous and do NOT recommend for top of stair use. They are fine for the bottom, but like I said they are hard to maneuver.
