The ladder itself is very sturdy, once you actually get it hooked onto the window sill. But it came undone almost immediately after I took it out the box. The red cloth that's supposed to keep it together DOES NOT do the job. It only fastens at the top with a thin strip of velcro. The enclosed instructions are for the two-story ladder, which complicated the task of re-folding it. There's no way either of my children would be able to get this ladder onto the window herself, as it's way too bulky and comes unfolded too easily while still supposedly restrained by the red cloth. Also, the distance from the sill to the top step of the ladder was an issue for my 6-year-old.

I bought this fire ladder because we live in a 3-story townhouse. When I took it out of the box, the ladder unfolded, and I had a terrible time putting it back together for storage. The red velcro strap that is supposed to hold the folded up ladder together is not strong enough and does not do the job. God forbid we ever need to use this...it will come undone before I can ever get it to the window. Overall, disappointed with the construction.

It is light enough to quickly throw over the window sill. Rests on side of house well. A bit difficult to fold back up after the practice try but doable.

I ordered two different ladders to compare them, thinking this one would be the best hope for my younger child. I WAS WRONG. Even my older child, age 6, could not manage the bulkiness of this item enough to lift it, let alone maneuver it into position. It is light and seems like a great design for older kids, BUT the picture is of a little girl using it and that is VERY MISLEADING. Also of note, the bulkiness of this item also means that it is a much larger thing to store than the other ladder if space is an issue.

I finally bit the bullet and ordered this ladder - realizing the importance of having a plan B to escape our 3 story townhome. The ladder is rather large, even when compacted for storage. It was a bit of a challenge for two of us to figure out how to fold it back up for storage (you have to unfold it, inspect it once out of the box) and the instructions aren't the easiest to follow, but it becomes easier after you familiarize yourself with the ladder.My husband says he has seen a ladder with smaller steps that folds up more compact in [...] catalog, but if I am trying to get down a 3 story ladder carrying one or two children, I'd prefer a wider step.

I cannot give you much of a review myself. My daughter-in-law requested the ladder for my granddaughter's bedroom. I bought it as a gift; however, it did seem sturdy and well constructed when she opened the box.

Great product and great piece of mind. Hope we never have to actually use it but it is nice to have upstairs...just in case

I am very pleased with this ladder. It doesn't fit in the windows in the front of our apartment but it does fit in our back windows. We have three children and because we live in an apartment, safety is a big issue for us. I would recommend this to everyone but if all your windows have a large ledge or shelf space this ladder won't fit. It is a must have for every family!

The hook that covers the window is not wide enough for our masonary exterior. We'll have to send it back.

Ladder is way too long for us, I wish I measure my house before I bought this - we could have used the 2 story ladder for our 3 story window. It is a great solution and gives peace of mind, however practicing with it we find that it dents the window sill wood on the inside from the weight (wouldn't care about that in an actual fire) and pulls away from the house as you go up/down. Also had problems with the first step because the rope seems too long so that step was too far from previous step, I had to tie bottom rope to fix that problem or my kids couldn't use the ladder or might have fallen off trying to reach the first step which was too far down. Recommend that anyone who buys this tests it out and has the kids go up/down before you consider it a safe solution.
