Overall pretty good. Assembly instructions are not good. It may be possible to make them less friendly, but you would have to work at it.
We have an uneven banister at the top of our stairs and needed a gate to cover the angle. This product works well. It is a little expensive, but does the job well.

I did a lot of research on trying to find a great gate for the top of my stairs. I wanted something that was wood, but sturdy. This gate seems great. My child is not yet crawling, so it has not been fully tested but it seems very safe and sturdy. I was actually hesitant about buying this gate because almost all of the reviews said it was extremely difficult to assemble. We did not have this problem. There are not clear written instructions, but there are pictures in the back of the handbook. It took about 30 minutes. So far it is a great product!

all in all, i am pretty handy so this was easy enough to install using the template. this was the ONLY option i had considering the way my hallway is built at the top of my stairs. i wound up mounting it on an 45 degree angle at the top of the stairs, into the moulding of doors on either side of the hallway and it worked like a charm. i should mention when i saw how many pieces it had, i was a bit overwhelmed, but after nearly 2 hours, it was installed. i don't think this is a deterrent for purchase though, it is VERY sturdy and i feel safe letting my 1 year old crawl around upstairs now, which is fun for him. the only con is that although i aligned it properly, the bottom closure on the locking side, which is supposed to slide in easily, takes my foot to guide it every time i lock the gate. others who use it don't always notice it is not locked at the bottom unless i tell them, and this can cause the gate to open if you pull on it. but for an angle mounted gate, this is the BEST, and the wood looks attractive in my hall also.

Good looking and sturdy wood construction - matches other woodwork in home.
Fairly easy to install.
This gate really does work at nearly any angle.
The plastic hinges and closure mechanism "seem" sturdy enough - only time will tell how durable they are.

Instructions VERY difficult to follow with no pictures. Look at the box picture as a guide on what to do. We had to use a mounting adapter kit to attach to the banister at the top of the stairs. Gate is perfect for uneven entryway. Latching mechanism is ok, but still not terribly use even for adults. Recommend using mollies if you have to attach it to drywall.

We have an old house with a big protruding banister and no room for mounting a normal gate. We have tried so many and this was our last hope- it worked great! As many said, the directions were disgraceful. It took me 2 hours to figure it out and it wasn't really that complex but there was little instruction provided. That being said, it works well and we feel it is sturdy and safe. My only other complaint is that we had to hammer in a couple of nails above each top hinge to keep them from popping up and out when you open the gate. Not the prettiest but no big deal. Also, one of the six pieces that the screws go into was defective (no threading) so we've got to replace it-also not too major. I'm just happy to have found something that works!

Great product! We love this gate that we put at the top of our stairway to keep our grandchildren safe. We have a 2 1/2 year old and a 9 month old. The baby is crawling and the toddler recently fell down the stairs because we had a gate that wasn't sturdy. The toddler liened up against the old gate, when he and the gate fell half way down the stairs. He is fine, but I immediately got rid of the gate and purchased yours. This will not happen with the Angle Mount Gate which fits perfectly. We are very happy and most of all we feel that our grandchildren are safe.

This gate is fine, however, the installation instructions are TERRIBLE. My husband and I are both intelligent people and we had to call in extra help to determine the first step. IMPOSSIBLE to install from the instructions. You just have to use your imagination.

This is my 5th gate I have purchased over the years. I like the product because of the wood finish & it is extremely easy to remove when not needed. Perfect for high traffic areas & when entertaining. It blends nicely in the home. I do not like this because it was extremely time consuming to assemble. You cannot merely push it closed like many others (as our hands are usually full). You have to line up the top & bottom of the gate pegs with the wall bracket & you generally won't get it on the first try. I also do not like that with the extendors, it creates an oversized swinging gate. The extendors do not stay stationary. A walk through would use so much less opening space.

I bought two gates, one for the top of the staircase and one for the bottom. My toddler is able to run around upstairs and downstairs without my husband and I worrying about her sneaking up or down the stairs. As soon as she figured out how to start climbing the stairs, it was time to put up a gate. This gate is unique in that the hinges swivel which is the reason why we purchased this particular gate. Our banister extends further than the wall on the opposite side. Most other baby gates we looked at had to line up evenly.
It was very simple to install, and is sturdy enough to withstand the wear and tear of opening and closing all day long.

I bought this for the tops of my stairs, and it works great. The only problems I had were: (1) the pieces came packaged oddly - inside of other pieces so that I thought I was missing about half of them and (2) the first time I "read" through the instructions I thought I was looking at some ancient form of hieroglyphics! Now that I have done one, I should be able to easily do the other 2.

I had such a bad angle at the top of my stairs I tried so many gates but this gate really delivers. It does take time to figure out the right angle for the gate but I have had it up for almost a year now and it still works perfectly!

We use these gates at the top and bottom of our staircase. It is very sturdy once properly placed, but it was very difficult to install. It took us 4 hours to put in the first gate.We also purchased a pole adapter kit (no holes required) thinking it would make it an easier process, but it didn't. The instructions were not very clear and we had to rely on the pictures in conjunction with the instructions to finally get it in place. You still have to make sure that it sits just so or it can be opened even though you think it's locked. I would have liked a better instruction manual.
