Good idea, but flimsy material

The idea behind this product is wonderful, but it has some flaws. The biggest being that it rips easily. You use a hole-puncher to make the hoes and zip ties to secure this onto your rails and if your children pull on it, it tears easily. We have had to replace panels several times. Overall, it works, but it won't last long and was fairly expensive for needing to replace it. I have yet to find an alternative, so as opposed to nothing, I would recommend it.

This product does what it is supposed to but in our situation it works but was dificult to install. We have a tri-level home so the bannister is shorter in length and then it goes down the stairs. The stairs part is where we needed something more than anything because the kids can see from their into the den. We have a 1 year old and a 2 year old and so we have the stairs to the den blocked by a gate. The 1 year old wanted to get downstairs and was beginging to look through the bannister to see downstairs. Now that we have it up it does deter them a bit but they like to pound on it and the material seems to be showing some wear.

I was very disappointed by this "clear" banister guard. It is not clear at all. It has a milky, opaque quality that is very distracting when installed in a banister. I have bought others in the past that were totally transparent, making the banister much more attractive while being safe for my toddler. I am returning this one.

I put this product on my banisters in our upstairs hallway. My daughter tried to stick her head between the slats and I decided to look for a product to prevent this from happening (and the 15 foot fall that would occur). This product is great, instantly fixed the problem! It is a little tricky to install, there is a lot of hole punching and the directions could be clearer, but the end result is worth every minute. Its not the best looking thing, but I can't think of any way around that. Its made of cloudy plastic, so it stands out a little, but its also temporary with no permanant holes or marks on your banisters. It is economical, I did the whole job for around $25.

We installed this product on a section of loft railing about 14 feet long that is not built to safety codes. It has large gaps between the vertical rails and a large gap below the horizontal rail.

We used screws on the top edge all along the 14 feet and added a small bottom rail along the bottom edge of the floor that we screwed into the big support posts. We then screwed the guard material into this new bottom board for a much more secure loft area in our cabin. Perhaps having the top and bottom secured by screws, makes the solution more sturdy than the intended installation with the zip ties. Either way you install it I would suggest using a drill rather than a hole punch.

There is a thin coat of material you remove which does make the Bannister Guard more see-through, but it is still slightly opaque and shouldn't be advertised as "invisible." The material is sturdy and will meet our needs well. The alternatives we considered (plexiglass - additional wood structures) were much more expensive.

This product was just too difficult to install. Our very strong and persistant 2 year old ripped it down in one day. So now I don't have a barrier but I do have holes in my dry wall. I really had high hopes for this product but it just did not deliver for me.

This banister guard seemed like a great idea for our new home with an upper level since we have little ones. While the idea was good, this product didn't really work for us. The hole punchers it came with did not function well, and made it hard to install. Great idea, but needs a little improvement.

Though we followed the directions the construction is a bit poor. If the material was thicker this would help. It tore at the hole punch site. We needed to secure it firmly as toddlers have super human strength and it tore at the holes. We changed and just used one hole punch and that was better, but it is a good thing we will not need it long as it will not hold up.

It is so poorly made, when you tie it around the pole - the holes crack so easy!!! Our assembled guard has huge cracks at the bottom, which can pose an even greater risk to the baby because his hand or feet can get stuck in them, and get scratched on the sharp edges. Not worth the money at all!
