These gates are great - we have one at the top and one at the bottom of the stairs. The wood is beautiful (a bit shiny, but great color) and matches our walnut floors exactly. The closure is secure enough to keep our 9 month old safe, but not so hard that our 4 year old can't do it. Works perfectly for us!

Even though this isn't the easiest to install it is the safest for your child. It is very sturdy so when they try to climb on it it doesn't come crashing down like the pressure gates would. I would NEVER recommend a pressure gate expecially were there are stairs or serious safety concerns. I feel this all worth the extra cost and extra time it takes to install. Keeping the child safe is what it is all about in the end!!

Thanks to all the candid reviews by fellow parents, my husband and I decided on this gate. It was easy to install (though the hubby is a contractor) and very easy to use. It looks great next to the custom railing my husband built and it keeps our son safe. I highly recommend this gate!

From looking at my husband installing the gate, I know it's not easy. He was pretty frustrated w/ the screws since it keeps breaking on him. He also thinks it's poorly designed because of some small details... I just wish that we got a pressure mount instead.

After the gate is installed, though, I thought it's a pretty nice gate. At first, I thought it's not easily opened like the other gates I've seen, but I got use to it, and I can open it w/ just one hand. But it's still hard for a toddler to figure out. In fact, it's hard for an adult too if we don't tell him/ her how. It's pretty sturdy so far, and it keeps my toddler away from the kitchen.
It's a great looking gate. It matches my floor. So far, I like it, besides the fact that there'll be drilled holes if we take it down one day.
The only thing is, when we want to keep our gate opened after our little one goes to sleep, it doesn't stay opened all the way. It opens maybe 3/4 or 2/3 of the way. That's kind of annoying when we want to go to the kitchen cuz sometimes the gate would just be in the way.

I guess I'd always suggest everyone to look into pressure mount first. If there really isn't any choice, then this is a nice gate.

This is a great gate! It looks great and it functions great. It is worth the extra money. Other review mention that it is difficult to assemble. My husband is very handy and it still took him 1 1/2 to 2 hours to install, but once it is installed you are set. It is worth having someone help you or even hiring someone to install it if you need to. Puts up with lots of abuse from my 2 1/2 year old and still looks great. Easy to open for me, but kids can't figure it out. Love it!

After a lengthy search for a gate to be used at the top and bottom of our stairway, I found this beautiful gate! Not only does it blend in with our medium oak woodwork perfectly, it is stylish and peace-of-mind sturdy. The latch system is easy for adult use, a no-fail safety feature for our ever-curious toddler! The gates also keep our dog from traipsing up and down the stairs at will - a great side benefit for us. I was hesitant to purchase after reading about difficult installation in several reviews, but with a little extra time and creativity (we have a unique set-up at the bottom of the stairs - the top was a breeze!), installation went smoothly and the result is wonderful. I highly recommend this product to anyone ~ worth the little extra money and installtion time by far!!

It's a beautiful gate. Looks like it was built with my staircase. It's very easy to use ( one hand open) and very sturdy. Other reviews said it was hard to assemble,my husband and brother had it up in 1 hr. They found it pretty simple. Definetly recommend this gate. It also matches my hardwood floors perfectly too
